Publications list (and index below)

4. BACK COPIES OF OUR JOURNAL SPHERE that members can buy: each journal contains lots of useful, relevant articles – listed under the headings below. You can see a few articles here.

We give the volume number and issue number of the journal with an article on a named topic. Topics can be written about more than once, for example ‘Evening primrose oil: (15/3), (15/4), (16/1)’ (seventh item on list) has been written about three times: in SPHERE volume 15 issue 3 and in the following two journals volume 15 issue 4 and volume 16 issue 1. We shorten the names so that volume 15 issue 3 becomes 15/3.

Four issues make up one volume: the next journal after 15/4 is 16/1. There are personal stories letters from members, reader’s suggestions for self-help tips and other advice in most of the journals.

Most journals have 16 pages, but seven of the back copies are are bigger: some consist of several newsletters edited down (removing out of date information, adverts, and so forth) into a single journal. These are:

  • Choices from volume 6 (12 pages) contains the most important articles from the four issues in volume 6 (i.e. journals 6/1, 6/2, 6/3 and 6/4) and is the same price as a regular journal – as shown above.
  • Special Selection from volumes 1, 2 and 3: 28 pages – the best from 16 journals – see titles below.
  • Combined volumes 4 and 5: 20 pages – ‘Face it’, ‘Forgotten Plague’, diet, stress… lots more… see below.
  • Condensed volume 7: 20 pages – GPs’ attitudes, aciclovir, media reports, alternative therapies, more…
  • 8/1 and 8/2 united: pregnancy, menstruation, aciclovir cream, 'the Conditioned Response'
  • Journal number 8/3: 28 pages – This very important journal gives the facts about herpes simplex primaries, recurrences; an informative lecture by Dr David Barlow; how the hype has been created (with at least 4 examples, etc.) – see titles below.
  • Best of volume 9: 20 pages – update on antiviral pills, how to get your head around it – and more…
  • Volume 10 edited: 22 pages – our members appear on TV shows; dealing with negative thoughts, more…
  • Collection of articles from volume 11, issues 1 to 3: 28 pages – stopping symptoms the alternative way; sex and morality: don’t judge; assert yourself: and why not?; testimonials [about us] from top doctors; and more…
  • Article length, here's how you can tell:
Major articles: the volume/issue number of the journal is underlined, e.g. 4/3 or Cond. vol. 7.
Articles which are about one page long: the number is plain, e.g. Comb. vols 4 & 5 or 8/4.
Shorter articles of less than a page: the volume/issue number is shown in brackets, e.g. (7/4)

You can read on-line an article which was printed in SPHEREs 17/2 (1st part) and 17/3 (2nd part) reporting the talk Dr Kinghorn gave to our members at our London seminar.
